Chair

My trusty old desk chair has been with me for many years. It is basic and black with a no longer cushioned seat and small backrest offering only minimal support. It swivels, spins and rolls the same as it has always done. Even after many long cross-country trips moving from Georgia to Arizona to Georgia and back to Arizona again. As much I prefer it in Arizona, I don't think my old-faithful desk chair has much preference. It just sits there. Waiting.

It creaks under an weight or pressure, but is still strong. It has not only served as seat at my desk, but also as from time to time as step-stool. Oh, and let's not forget to mention my children's favorite use for the chair- a merry-go-round!

In it's old age it might feel intimidated if it were placed next to a newer more cushy desk chair. It may feel some inadequate as we now have place small pillows on its seat to sit comfortably and enjoy its company for any length of time. However if this were the case the chair would also remember all the good times. It would remember how important it is, and the many purposes it has served. We have grown up together in a way. It wouldn't view a newer cushier chair as a threat. It wouldn't feel as if it had been demoted. In fact, it would be moving on to a better job.

It would have the honor of serving my children as they learn to read and write, and as they make crafts or use the computer. My old faithful desk chair would be proud to now offer its capabilities to the next generation, and to support their grow with them as it did with me.
